You will need to disassemble the furniture piece and look over the condition of the furniture. Before starting to upholster, repair and fill in cracks and scratches on the wood surfaces. You can polish metal pieces of the chair. If you are going to re-stain or paint the furniture, do it while it is disassembled.
To reupholster furniture you will need the follow:
- Upholstering fabric
- Staple gun
- Cutter
- Glue
- Screwdriver
The fabric should be medium weight and durable. Too light a fabric will get spilt and show wear very easily while too heavy a fabric will be difficult to work with. The old fabric if any when removed can be used as a pattern to cut out the new fabric from the sheets. Padding should be replaced if it is matted.
Iron the material and stretch it over the padding and attach it to the frame with the staple gun. Stretch the material so that it is snug. If there is a pattern, be sure it is straight on the chair. Once the seats are covered, you can reassemble the chair. Be sure that the screws are tight so that there will be no accidents.
This won’t work for many offices because they need to present a professional image and have clients that are spending a lot of money. When a more professional image must be maintained, when office furniture wears out it should be replaced.
